Introduction

Americans want proof in many areas of their life.  They want a three year guarantee on their new car.  They purchase Consumer Reports to get proof that the TV they want to buy is a good one.  They want proof that their child is learning in school (test results).  They want proof their representatives in Congress are making just laws (or at least they should).  They want proof that someone is guilty before locking them up in prison.  But how would you go about proving the Bible is from God, using science?

First, recognize that man does not make any of the laws of science.  Man only discovers the laws.  Discovering these laws is like hunting for buried treasure.  If the treasure map you are using is wrong, it makes it very difficult to find the treasure.  But if you hire enough diggers and dig up enough ground, you will still find the treasure.  It just takes a whole lot less effort if the map is accurate.  As science tries to find the hidden laws of nature, the Bible can often be used like a treasure map.

So, do upward evolutionists have a better map for finding the treasures of science, or do those scientists who use the Bible as their foundation have a better treasure map?  If 10,000 upward evolutionary scientists look for an answer they should always beat 100 creation scientists—unless the creationists’ map is better!

What would cause a scientist to use a 2000-year-old book as his treasure map?  He first has to discover that God exists and that the Bible is a message from that God.  If a scientist cannot prove the Bible is from God, then he wanders around using the many maps made-up by the imagination of man (such as upward evolution). 

So which map or maps led to the greatest discoveries of science?  Who were the scientists behind the many branches of science (Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Biology, etc.) and what map did they say they used?  I think you will be surprised to learn that the history of science is the history of famous scientists who used the Bible as their treasure map in doing their science!  

So why don’t most scientists today use the Bible?  Many scientists have never seen the evidences in this lesson because their education removed all positive references to the Bible.  Why were they left out?  Probably because these evidences have consequences.  When a man of integrity finds out he is in error, he either gives up his error, or he gives up his integrity.  If the Bible is from God, then God sets the rules that help govern the activities of man.  But that same Bible said most men will not follow these rules (Matthew 7:13-14).  Mankind, scientist or not, often likes to make up his own rules, even if they are bad for his family and bad for society. 

Think about the following example.  When you were a 10-year-old child, did you thank your parents when they made you follow some rules that were for your own good?  Did you thank them for making you go to bed on time and eat your vegetables?  The day after they gave you a spanking, did you thank them because you knew the punishment was good for you?  Did you even realize your punishment would help you avoid taking your bad habits into adulthood?  You should have, but you probably did not. 

Why do you think scientists are much different?  Like many of the rest of us, we still do not like to be told what is good for us.  Many of us need to lose weight and our doctor says we should get some exercise and eat less.  Yet we do not.  How much more important are our eternal souls than these temporary bodies?  We need to follow God’s rules for our souls so our spiritual health will let us live for eternity with Him.

How did the Bible know that? The Bible was beyond the capabilities of ancient man.

Imagine all the lights in this room are turned off and it is pitch black.  That is what it is like for our children in this media saturated society.  It is a blackout from God’s Word, including the public schools and colleges.  Let us turn on the light of truth and protect our children.

Join me as we explore the evidences from outer space to inside the human body, to answer the question:  How did the Bible know that.  Let us explore God’s scientific wisdom that was not discovered for thousands of years.  But also, let us ask

How did the Bible avoid all the errors of science WHEN the Bible was written.  Thousands of years ago, some ancient civilizations taught errors such as the earth was flat and was on the back of 4 elephants that were on the back of a giant turtle.

I think you will also be surprised to learn what even the French academy of science taught in 1900 about Mars (what many today would call a belief in little green men). Remember, the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God (1 Cor. 3:19)

Did you ever realize that when you pick up your Bible, that you are picking up a miracle?  Yes the Bible talks about miracles that were done thousands of years ago.  But did you ever realize that some of the information written in the Bible thousands of years ago proves it is from God (a miracle).  Why?  Because man did not know those things thousands of years ago.

You might have been asked, “How would you prove the Bible is a miracle?  What would make the Bible a miracle?  Or what would be considered as evidence it could only be from God?”  So let us type in the phrase “Miraculous Bible” into Google.  8 million results.  MiraculousBible.org (a brotherhood website) is usually near the top.  This website has many Videos, PDFs, Articles, etc.  This lesson will eventually show up on this website.

So what about science and the Bible?  Or what do you think the media would say to the following question?  “Do Bible believers do better science?”  The media and academia say no.  They often claim all the “real scientists” believe in upward evolution.  You may not be aware of the fact that there are over 10,000 scientists across this world that believe in the young age of the earth, as created by God, because of their scientific studies.  A lot of them were upward evolutionists at one time, until they saw the evidences you are reading today.

They have even used the Creation account today, to make successful predictions in science, such as: 1) planetary magnetic fields (the creationist’s prediction turned out to be right, all the upward evolutionary predictions were wrong), 2) too much helium in rocks (the creationists’ prediction turned out to be right and all the upward evolutionary models were wrong), 3) colder material near the earth’s core (Creationist’s were right, upward evolution models were wrong), etc.

These former upward evolutionists all went through an educational system that only showed them observations that seemed to fit one of the many theories of upward evolution.  But these scientists discovered that those observations fit the Creation model and many observations falsify the upward evolutionary theories they were taught.  One is reminded of Proverbs 18:17: “The first one to plead his cause seems right, until his neighbor comes and examines him.”  Who is the first one to tell our children about chemistry, biology, history, physics, calculus, etc.?  (1) The upward evolutionists, or at least the evolutionists’ books (2) History channel (3) Movies about dinosaurs, etc.  We should make sure they understand the truth, before they get distracted with all the lies upward evolutionists put into our children’s textbooks.  Proverbs 16:25 may also be applicable: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

But what about these 10,000 scientists who are creationists?  What kind of evidence could have convinced these scientists to go against what they were taught?  What convinced them the Bible was from God?  Today we want to see the Great DISCOVERIES that were already in God’s Word.   Remember, what we see in God’s world agrees with what we read in God’s Word.

But can we Prove it?  Is the Bible inspired of God or is it simply a “good book”?  Is there any evidence?  Many think our faith is just a Blind Faith.  Let us follow 1 Thessalonians 5:21: “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (ASV). 

All Scripture references are from the New King James unless otherwise specified. The purpose of this material is to encourage everyone to learn some of these scientific facts in order to prove to others that (1) the Bible must be from God (2) that Bible believers do better science, and (3) the Bible was the treasure map for many famous scientists.

Where does great science come from?  And does it have anything to do with the Bible?  Can we take this book (the Bible) and prove it is from God?  And what does it mean to prove something?  Don’t we just believe the Bible on the basis of a blind faith?  That’s what most of the denominational world teaches, doesn’t it?  By blind faith they mean something along these lines: “Oh, I believe what’s in my heart right here. I believe in God; you don’t have to prove it to me.”  No, we have a faith that is based on evidence. Jesus gave His apostles evidence. The apostles gave others evidence, until almost 10% or the Roman world believed. So what kind of evidence do we have?  God included in the Bible scientific facts that man would not discover on his own until many centuries later!

The lost cities. Consider the scientific study of archaeology.  Are there evidences from archaeology that the Bible must be from God?  Are there proofs that the Bible could not have been written just by men?  Before we answer that question, let’s do a comparison.  You have heard of the religious group, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, and their “sacred” book first published in 1830.  Their founder, Joseph Smith, supposedly translated gold plates that described real people and real places that existed in Central and North America sometime between 600 BC to 400 AD.  This book named places and people (Nephites and Lamanites).  Do you know how many towns, cities, people, and Indian cultures that we have now found in archaeology that are mentioned in the Book of Mormon?  Remember, archaeology is a new science that did not start until the mid 1800s, and the Book of Mormon was first published in 1830.  So Americans in 1830 could not verify the authenticity of Joseph Smith’s claims.  But today, how many of their cities from the book of Mormon have been found?  Even respected Mormon archaeologist Professor Dee F. Green has said: “… no Book of Mormon location is known …” Zero!  Not even one of them has been verified!

So how many cities mentioned in the Bible have been found through archaeological means?  Before 1800, there were many thousands of cities recorded in the Old Testament that we did not know existed, except for being mentioned in the Bible.  This fact led some critics to conclude that these people and places did not exist.  Others wondered, “Why would the Bible be so specific about the names of people and places?  Why didn’t God just speak in generalities, calling someone the king instead of giving their actual name?”  Perhaps God mentioned all those specific names and people because He wanted us to be able to verify and check out His word.  See the article “Archaeology and the Old Testament” at http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/2502.

Since the mid 1800s, archaeology has found over 6000 cities mentioned in the Old Testament that were located exactly where the Bible said they were.  In fact, many of the cities were found using the Bible as the “treasure map.”   Forget the religious writings such as the Book of Mormon, the Koran, the Tao Te Ching, the Bhagavad-Gita, etc.—no book ever written by man (a thousand years ago or more) has ever been this accurate—over 6000 cities!  Not even man’s best history books have come close to this kind of accuracy.  This shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Bible is not like any other book mankind has ever seen.

Proof from prophecy.  What about prophecy?  I’m not talking about those vague “prophecies” carried in the newspaper, such as the daily horoscope; I’m talking about words written long before the events occurred that came true exactly as predicted—prophecies that can be tested against known historical data.  See “Tyre in Prophecy” at  http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/3077.

Proof from unity.  What about the proof of inspiration from the unity of the Bible?  The Bible had forty different authors spread out over 1500 years, written in three different languages, on three different continents, with its writers having different education levels and different positions in society.  And yet they all agree with each other and what they wrote perfectly harmonizes.  Amazing!  See the article “The Unity of the Bible” at  http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/3356, or Warren Wilcox article, "Bible Unity is Beyond Man's Ability": and look at the graphical view of all the cross references between the different people God chose to write down His word.

Scientific accuracy.  But this lesson is about the scientific accuracy of the Bible.  You may ask, “Does the Bible even claim there is such a thing as scientific proof?”  Romans 1:20 says: “For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes have been clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and godhead, so that they are without excuse….”  Paul is saying here: “Look at creation—you’ve got no excuse!”   Upward evolutionists have no excuse before God.  They are denying the evidence that is right in front of their faces.  They have conditioned themselves over and over to deny these evidences or to ridicule anyone who mentions creation.  God said in 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 that many “did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.  And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth.”  They believed a lie because their hearts hardened against the truth. 

But what about you as Christians?  You are supposed to be able to give them answers.  If you do not defend the truth, who will?  Are you going to answer these gainsayers before they deceive more innocent children?  These upward evolutionists may not believe your evidences, but you’re supposed to be able to shut up their arguments with a logical response to their nonsense (1 Peter 3:14-15; Titus 1:9; 2 Cor. 10:5; Psa. 66:7).  God is commanding Christians to be defense attorneys for God’s last will and testament.  Would God choose you as His defense attorney?

Now here’s a part that most of us were never taught in school:  Science catches up with the Bible.  You mean the Bible records some scientific methods, observations, and laws that man did not discover until thousands of years later?  That’s right.  Let’s cover just a few of these and also mention some very famous scientists who used the Bible as their Treasure Map in their science. They were creationists.  Again, 1 Thessalonians 5:21 tells us to “prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (ASV).  And Psalms 18:30 says “The word of the Lord is proven;”  So let us put the Bible to the test. 

The earth is round.  In the book of Isaiah (written more than 700 years before Christ), the Bible gives a description of the earth from the viewpoint of someone gazing at it from space.  Isaiah 40:22 says of God that He “sits above the circle of the earth….”  Notice the word circle: It comes from the Hebrew word chuwg, which means “roundness—spherical like a ball.”  You mean, the Bible said the earth was round 2200 years before Columbus sailed for America?  What did science believe 700 years before Christ?  You were probably taught the lie that Columbus proved that the earth was round and that previous civilizations believed in a flat earth.   But people who did not like the Bible either made up these lies or repeated them. Washington Irving wrote these lies in 1828 and they were repeated by John W. Draper (1811-1882) and very highly respected academic, Andrew Dickson White (1832-1918) in his two volume History of the Warfare of Science with Theology in Christendom.  See Inventing the Flat Earth, by the history professor Jeffrey Burton Russell.  If previous civilizations taught a flat earth, then then the following could be said.  Even though some Greeks starting talking about a round earth back in 500—300 BC, the Romans taught that the earth was a flat disk!  Don’t you find it ironic that these Roman evolutionary scientists were “flat earthers”?

Now I’ve got a question for you.  Imagine you are going to a private school 2000 years ago in Rome.  You are taught by Rome’s greatest scientist that the earth is a flat disk.  It is a scientifically proven fact.  Then you read Isaiah 40:22, and it says the earth is round.  So, based on the science of man 2000 years ago, you could have said, “Scientifically speaking, we know the Bible is wrong; therefore I don’t have to believe the Bible.”

People wouldn’t say that today, would they?  But 2000 years ago these “flat earthers” also could have attacked Jesus Christ for His description of His second coming.  Jesus said He was coming back, but in Luke 17:34-36, He described His second coming as being during daylight hours (the laborer is out in the field)!  Yet just two verses earlier He said it would be nighttime (“I say unto you, in that NIGHT there shall be….”).  “Well, wait a minute, Jesus, make up Your mind.  Are You coming back in the daytime or are You coming back in the nighttime?”

2000 years ago people could have said, “Hey, we know the Bible is wrong; it’s got a contradiction!  He either comes back when it is daytime, or He comes back during the night.  He can’t come back when it’s both because the earth is flat.  Everybody knows that when the Sun comes up over the horizon of our flat disk, the light shines from one end of the flat disk to the other end.  Therefore it is daylight over the entire flat earth.”

They would not say that today because NASA has shown everybody those magnificent pictures from space that prove the earth is round.  So we understand better than at any other time in history that this accusation against Jesus is false.  For example, if Jesus Christ comes back when it is noon-time in New York City, it will be nighttime in China.  No big deal, right?  It’s obvious to those of us living in the 21^st century.  There is no contradiction here.  But if you lived 2000 years ago and were taught that the earth was a flat disk—if that was your science of that day, then you would have thought, scientifically speaking, that God’s Word contained errors.

No.  Isaiah said the earth is round, spherical like a ball.  And there is even more proof that the Bible said it is round.  Job says that God “drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters, at the boundary of light and darkness” (Job 26:10).  This circular horizon cannot exist without a spherical earth!  Look at this image from Google Earth.  If you were to paint a line on the boundary between light and darkness, what would be the shape of the line?  A circle.  But how did man know this 3000 years ago?  Just remember, the Bible was right.  Anybody who attacked it turned out to be wrong.  But if you died before you found out the Bible was right, what would have happened to your soul if you followed the wisdom (myths) of man?  You would have lost your soul.  The same thing will happen to you today.

The stars are uncountable. Now what does the Bible say about the number of stars?  The biggest number in the Hebrew language was 1000.  How long would it take you to count to 1000?  At once per second, it would take you less than 20 minutes.  How many stars are out there?  In Jeremiah 33:22, the Bible says there are so many stars out there that you cannot count them.  The Hebrews did not even have a word such as a million, let alone ten sextillion! (Millions, were uncountable. 1 Kings 3:8)

So let us go back in time once again.  If you lived back in 128 BC and asked the famous scientist Hipparchus if the stars were uncountable, he would have said, “No, no, no, the Bible has got to be wrong—there are only 800 to 1080 stars,” the amount he measured at one time.  Since the stars rotate across the sky, he might actually have concluded there were about 3000.  Anyone can count to 3000 in less than an hour (remember there are 3600 seconds in an hour).  So in 128 BC, a “scientist” would have said without a shadow of a doubt, “The Bible is wrong!”

Let’s go forward in time 278 years.  In 150 AD, there was a famous scientist named Ptolemy (remember Ptolemy’s circles?).  He cataloged 1022 stars (in The Almagest).  So what could you say if you lived in 150 AD?  You could say, scientifically speaking, “The Bible is wrong!”  Even as late as 1575, Tycho Brahe, a very famous astronomer who had the most accurate measurements of the stars in his day, only counted 777 stars.  In other words, as late as 1575, you could have accused the Bible of being wrong.  A few years later one of the top ten scientists of all time (another famous astronomer), Johannes Kepler, only counted 1005 stars.  So if you lived and died back in those days, you might have viewed the Bible as scientifically wrong!  See http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/1791

The Bible says there are so many stars out there that you cannot count them. And then it compares those stars to the sands of the seashores.  Jeremiah 33:22 and Heb. 11:12 say “… as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.”  Do you think you can count all the grains of sand on the seashore in one lifetime or a hundred lifetimes?  How did the Bible “accidentally” make the comparison between innumerable sand and innumerable stars? Because it used the wisdom of God, and not the wisdom (myths) of men. So how many stars are out there?

Here is a picture from the Hubble space telescope from NASA.  Scientists pointed this powerful telescope at a region of space for ten days, “into a seemingly dark, empty area of space” (HubbleSite.org).  In other words, the Hubble telescope constantly collected the light from that dark little spot for ten days.  What did they find in this “empty” region of space?  They found almost 10,000 galaxies (as seen here).  There were more stars in a place formerly thought to be empty than could be counted in a thousand lifetimes!

So how many stars are there in the entire universe? Scientists have now estimated that there are so many stars that every single person on earth could have his own 40 trillion personal stars!   But before the 1500s, man’s best science books said the number was only about 3000.  We now know the Bible was right, and man’s science was wrong.  Anybody who claimed that the Bible was incorrect turned out to be wrong.  Yet man gives honor to these great scientist of the past (Hippicacus, Ptolemy, Tycho Brahe, Keplar), but our institutions of higher learning fail to give honor to the Bible.  Why?  Because belief in God’s word has consequences.  Belief in man’s theories do not.

I have a question for you. Could you name all of your stars, your own personal 40 trillion stars?  No.  But God named them all (seven billion times forty trillion) according to Psalms 147:4.  And where did all those stars come from?  Remember that man is without excuse, as Romans 1:20 says.

The Earth Has a Water Cycle.  In Ecclesiastes 1:7, the Bible says we have a water cycle on this planet.  Yet man didn’t finish figuring this out until the 1600s in Europe.  How is it possible that King Solomon living in the mountains of Israel could have written about a scientific fact 2500 years before scientists finished discovering it?  Below is a diagram of the Earth’s water cycle.  It shows evaporation out of the ocean to form clouds, which rain down on the continents, where the water runs downhill until it returns to the oceans.  (http://www.apologeticspress.org/pdfs/courses_pdf/hsc0108.pdf, pg 4)

So imagine you were living near the ocean 2000 years ago and you observed a river dumping millions of gallons of water per second into the ocean.  Wouldn’t you say to yourself, “Maybe I should move away from here because eventually this ocean is going to fill up”?  Isn’t that an obvious observation?  You wouldn’t know about evaporation, in which the water from this river goes back up into the clouds and rains down again somewhere behind you.  You would not be aware that the river water would come back down as snow in the mountains and melt in the summer time, to fill up the river and flow back down into this ocean.  So how did the Bible talk about a water cycle long before man figured it out?  Ecclesiastes 1:7 says: “All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full.  To the place from which the rivers come, there they return again.”  Amos 9:6 also mentions the evaporation part of the earth’s water cycle.

The Ocean Has Springs.  Most people aren’t aware of how deep the oceans are and the errors of scientists up until the 1800s — scientists taught that the bottom of the ocean floor was just one sandy beach extension from one continent to the next.  So how deep is the ocean?  The average depth is almost two miles!  The question is:  “How did anyone back in the time of Job, 900 years (or more) before Christ, know the following fact before there were any submarines or probes that they could send down to the bottom of the ocean floor?  Do you think they had a camera with a really long cable that they could extend to the bottom of the ocean to see what was down there?  Do you think they had sonar back then to examine the bottom of the ocean floor?  No.  Then why, when God was speaking to Job, did He say: “Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea?” (38:16, ASV—more literal translation)  You mean there are springs coming up from the bottom of the deep ocean floor and on the shallower continental shelves?  How did people 3000 years ago know about the “springs of the sea”?  Modern science did not discover them until the 1900s.  Yet this is what God’s Word said 3000 years ago.

Remember the average depth of the ocean is almost two miles deep.  Even if we only consider the springs on the continental shelves, they are still hundreds of feet deep.  Near Pensacola, Florida, there is a fresh water spring on the bottom of the ocean floor that has water flowing out of it so fast that a battleship can anchor over that spring and refill its fresh water tanks.  That is how fast the spring is adding fresh water to the ocean, but how did Job know that?  The Bible knew about the springs of the sea long before modern science discovered them.

The Ocean has Trenches.  The same verse in the book of Job says the ocean floor has recesses or trenches (see the ASV which has the most literal translation of this particular word).  Remember that scientists in the past thought the bottom of the ocean floor was just one sandy beach-like extension from one continent to another—until the 1800s when they discovered a trench almost five miles deep.  We now know that the bottom of the Marianas Trench is farther below sea level than Mt. Everest is above sea level.  That is a tremendous gash in the ocean floor.  Let's see where this trench is located on Google Earth.  Watch this video simulation as if we were approaching this trench at over 500 miles per hour.  Notice the steep walls on the sides of the trench.  Does this map, showing the ocean bottom, look like a sandy beach like extension to you?  No.  How did the Bible say the ocean had 1) trenches-recesses in Job 38:16 (ASV), 2) deep places in Psalms 135:6, 3) channels in 2 Samuels 22:16, 4) mountains in Jonah 2:5-6, etc., long before man discovered them?

Famous Scientists.  Now let us shift away from the scientific foreknowledge of the Bible for a minute and study some famous scientists.  Remember, to those who give honor to God, Ecclesiastes 2:26 says that “God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy.”

Paths of the Sea.  How many of you have ever heard of Matthew Fontaine Maury?  He was America’s most famous scientist in the mid 1800s.  He is called the father of modern day oceanography.  He wrote the scientific textbook called Physical Geography of, the Sea (1855).  He made the first ocean current  charts (paths of the sea) such as this one.  If you are living in America and you want to travel to Europe by water, then the easiest way is to follow the Gulf Stream that goes from Florida to Europe.  And if you want to travel from Europe back to America, you do what Columbus did: go south.  That was the trick that Columbus knew: a southerly route would put the ship in the path of the prevailing winds and ocean currents, which flow west in this area of the ocean (Rudd).

Why would this matter?  Following the ocean currents saves millions of dollars in transportation costs.  Maury was the scientist who collected the naval maps and the captain’s logs and charted the paths of the seas, thus becoming incredibly famous.

Monuments to him were set up in his honor in Richmond, Virginia, and at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  Yet Matthew Fontaine Maury said that Psalm 8:8 recorded the paths of the sea long before man discovered them; this verse talks about the fish that pass through the paths of the sea, and the word path in Hebrew means “a customary road.” 

Paths in the sea?  Maury made sure that his science textbook gave God the credit for his discoveries.  And he became so famous that other countries gave him honors.  They even named a destroyer (naval ship) after him.  You might think that such honors would inflate his ego, but he always credited his belief in the Scriptures as the source of his success.

He was attacked by other scientists because his science textbook had Scriptural references, such as Psalm 8:8, Psalm 107:23-24, and Ecclesiastes 1:7.  Maury had made sure God got the glory for recording scientific facts about the ocean long before man discovered them.  On one of the monuments to Maury, they have Psalm 8:8 engraved in stone with the Bible at his feet.  On it he was called the “Pathfinder of the Sea.”  Today, this evidence is so powerful (that better science is done by starting with the Bible) that skeptics try to rewrite this portion of science’s history.  They say Maury did not get his inspiration from the Bible.  They ignore that even the secular State of Virginia built a monument to Maury at Goshen Pass in 1923 and put this inscription on it: "HIS INSPIRATION HOLY WRIT” and the verses mentioned above.   

World’s most famous scientist.  You may not have heard of Matthew Fontaine Maury, but you certainly know Sir Isaac Newton, who is usually considered the greatest scientist who ever lived.  He made so many crucial discoveries in science that he would have been famous if he had only discovered just one of them.  He invented calculus and developed many other mathematical ideas.  He made breakthroughs in different scientific areas such as light and color, prisms, astronomy, and gravity.   He is also well-known for finally learning what causes the tides.  Could all of these have come from one man?  Yes, he was an incredible scientist.

But what you were probably not taught in school was that Sir Isaac Newton not only wrote science textbooks, but he also researched and wrote two other books on history.  One was titled Prophecies of Daniel.  He showed that the book of Daniel clearly described the four major world kingdoms long before the third (Greek) and fourth (Roman) kingdoms ever existed.  And he wrote another book, titled Ancient Kingdoms (of the Bible).  Actually, Newton wrote more on religion than science.  Those who have researched both the scientific and religious writings of Sir Isaac have concluded that he spent more time studying his Bible than he ever did science.  He personal notes contained thousands of pages on Biblical subjects (about 1.3 million words which would be about 20 books).  Do you have this much dedication to God’s Word?

Even Newton’s most famous scientific work, Principia Mathematical, was written to show others that they should believe in the God of the Bible because studying science forces one to understand His existence and His design.  Even Wikipedia (that has a secular bias against creationists, which is common in academic circles) says: “Newton claimed that in writing the Principia:  'I had an eye upon such Principles as might work with considering men for the belief of a Deity.'”

What today’s “politically-correct” history books leave out is that Sir Isaac Newton wrote papers to refute upward evolution and to defend the Creation account in the Bible; he argued against his atheistic colleagues.  He said: “I find more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than any profane history whatsoever.”  In other words, forget what the Greeks wrote; forget what the wisdom of man has produced; the Bible is more authentic than anything man has written.  He also said, “All my discoveries have been made in answer to prayer.”  See if you can find that in your child’s science textbook or history textbook.  See the article “Isaac Newton—Religious Works Finally Published” at http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/2614.

Sir Isaac Newton was a famous scientist who defended God’s Word during his lifetime against the majority of scientists in his day.  Secular historians (those who look at the world without God) pick and choose from available facts in history to reflect a particular viewpoint; so if you’ve never heard about Newton’s Biblical foundation for his science, it is not surprising.

Is this just a fluke?  Did we just collect some rare scientists and rare occurrences where the Bible just inadvertently got some scientific observations correct long before science discovered them: a spherical earth, uncountable numbers of stars, springs of the sea, and paths of the sea?  Did the Bible just get lucky that a few famous scientists out there believed in the Bible and defended it?  Is this just an accident, just a few lucky guesses by the Bible writers?  No this is not just an accident.  There is a lot more evidence from science that the Bible is from God.  Remember that Romans 1:20 says man is without excuse because there is so much evidence out there. 

Great science from 30%. Let us do a comparison of where great science comes from.  About 30% of the world claims to be Christian or professes some belief in Christianity.  Very few people actually follow the Bible.  We know that.  But if Christianity was a false religion, just like all the other religions, then all religions are essentially equal.  That is what the news media and many college professors claim.  If all religions are equal, then let us see which religious cultures have produced the most technological advances that have benefited mankind.  Think of all the medical breakthroughs, the easy access to transportation, cheap energy sources, communication, etc.  (Upward evolution has yet to significantly benefit mankind and its theories have often harmed mankind socially, medically, and spiritually.  Check the article called “15 Answers to John Rennie and Scientific American's Nonsense” at  http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/2575) and

Remember, about 30% claim Christianity.  Therefore, if all religions were essentially equal, then you could predict scientifically that about 30% of all breakthroughs that benefit mankind would come from those groups that profess Christianity, right?  Guess what?  Over 90% of all the technological advances that benefit mankind come from this 30% group!  Amazing!  The foundation of truth really is God’s Word.

Elevation.  When do you think man started measuring elevation across long distances?  It wasn’t until the 1600s when the barometer was invented.  This is long after the Bible was written, right?  Yet the Bible often talks about going up to a city or down to a city.  The Bible uses the words up or down to describe traveling from one city, town, or country to the next.  It does this over 100 times.  Long before scientists knew how to measure elevation, a reader might have thought up meant north or down meant south, but that was not what the Bible writer was saying.

By the way, if you thought the Bible was referring to a direction (north or south) instead of to elevation, then you could have claimed the Bible had mistake after mistake.  The Bible speaks of going “down to Jericho,” yet Jericho is not south of Jerusalem but slightly north.  Once scientists measured these elevations, every one of the supposed mistakes turned out to be the most accurate ancient elevation records ever written.  

So if the Bible wasn’t from God, what is the chance of getting the up and down elevations right every single time?  Well, if the Bible writer had just taken a guess on half of these travels (100/2 = 50 times), then we would expect many mistakes.  In other words, if the Bible writer had a 50-50 chance of getting it right in choosing up or down, the chance of getting every single instance correct of these 50 would be 2 raised to the negative 50^th power, which is essentially zero chance.  (one chance in a million times a billion)  Science started measuring elevation, and what did they find out?  They found out that the Bible must have gotten its elevation information from someone a whole lot smarter than all the collective wisdom of man. 

Now look at this video from Google Earth showing the topography of the Bible lands.  Just take a look at the terrain in the pictures above.  Had you lived around Jerusalem, you would have been familiar with a number of hills and valleys in the area.  But would you get all of the elevations right—even if you lived there: up, down, up, down, up, down—whether you are going to Egypt to the south or 200 miles north?  (The audience is seeing a video showing the mountains around Jerusalem.)  What are the chances of the Bible getting the up and down right every single time?   Unless the Bible is from God, there is no chance. Whether it is going down into Egypt (Isaiah 52:4), or down from Hebron to Sodom, or Jacob going up from Shechem to Bethel (Judges 21:19), or Adonijah going down to En-Rogel (Joshua 18:16), or Ahab going up to Ramoth-Gilead (1 Kings 22:6, 12, 20, 29), etc., the Bible got it right every single time!  See chapter 9, 7^th paragraph, in J.W. Blood Clotting.  Now let us explore some of the Bible’s medical foreknowledge about circumcision.  What day was Abraham told to circumcise all male babies?  Genesis 17:12, “he that is eight days old”.  Day 8!  Hmm.  Why day 8?  Well, science thinks it might have finally figured it out.  But why did the Bible writer say day eight?  You might expect the day to be day 7, because there are seven days in a week.  You might guess day 10, because you have ten fingers and ten toes, or maybe you would expect the Bible to choose day 40, since the Bible uses the number 40 so many times.  But where did day 8 come from?  It doesn’t make any sense.  Well, God said do it on day 8, so why argue?  Science did not discover why day 8 until recently (3400 years after Genesis was written).

First, we need to understand something about circumcision.  Basically, when you do circumcision on a little boy (it’s a minor surgery) he needs to be able to clot blood or he will bleed to death or have internal hemorrhaging.  Clotting blood is an incredibly complex biochemical process.  It is so complex that it is one of the evidences used against upward evolution (using the irreducible complexity argument, see http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/240286).

But let us focus on the three obvious ingredients required to clot blood.  The first key ingredient is blood platelets.  A baby has plenty of blood platelets when he is born; so that’s not a problem.  The second key ingredient is called available Prothrombin, which is produced using the third key ingredient, called vitamin K.  But vitamin K is not produced in appreciable amounts until days five through seven in the intestinal tract.  Therefore a child’s available Prothrombin falls from about 90% of normal at the time of birth to the low seen on the chart on day three.  Then the vitamin K production causes the available Prothrombin levels to increase dramatically on days five through seven so that on day eight there exist the highest levels of available Prothrombin in the entire baby boy’s life (Butt).

The dotted line on this graph shows the 100% normal level of available Prothrombin for a male during his life.  When he is born, he is a little bit low, about 90%.  If males were circumcised on the first day, only one out of 400 babies would have any bleeding problems.  If your son were that one out of 400, would you like for them to perform circumcision on him on the first day?  Knowing what we now know today, you would be reluctant to have it done on the first day and certainly not on days two through five.  But day 8 turns out to have been the best day for circumcision that could ever have been chosen.  How did Moses know this 3400 years ago?  Did he know about available Prothrombin back then?  No.  God told them when to do it.  (And He did not have to tell them why.)  The Israelites just did it that day because He said it.  God picked day 8.  Man did not select this time based on experiments or observations.  See “Biblical Accuracy and Circumcision on the 8th Day” at  http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/2204.  By the way, today we often perform circumcision on the first day because we inject the babies with artificial vitamin K.

Hygiene.  Now let us go to the subject of hygiene.  We all wash our hands when they are dirty—especially before eating.  Hygiene is important to us, but in some cultures around the world today, there are societies that only live (on average) about 35 to 45 years of age.  Why? The reason is that they do not follow the hygiene laws mentioned in the Bible.  What does the Bible say about hygiene laws and cleanliness?

Consider leprosy:  Even in the 18^th and 19^th centuries people with leprosy were going door-to-door selling wares!  That’s terrible!  We would not allow that today, would we?  The Bible told the Israelites how to use isolation, which avoided spreading communicable diseases like leprosy.  The Bible even told the Israelites which meats to avoid and what fish to not eat.  Notice that every poisonous fish, near the Israelites, were avoided by just following God’s description of unclean fish. 

God told the Israelites when they left Egypt:  If you will follow My laws and My statutes, I will put upon you none of the diseases that have come upon the Egyptians. (Exodus 15:26)  Take foods for example.  Does that mean when the Israelites ate pork, that God was just going to zap the pork and take all the bad parasites out of the pork?  No, He just told them not to eat pork.  But now we know that pork is not a good meat to eat unless you cook it really well (at least, that is the solution we use today).  See the article “Scientific Foreknowledge and Medical Acumen of the Bible” at  http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/3159.

He promised them none of these terrible diseases if they would just follow what He said. Other cultures did not follow what the Old Testament hygiene laws said; so what results did they end up with?  The Black Plague and other epidemics wiped out almost half of the known human race in a few years.  Wow!  Even as late as 1918, the influenza epidemic killed 21 million people worldwide.  We lost almost a million people in the United States alone. Yet this could easily have been taken care of by following the hygiene laws from the Old Testament.  These plagues may seem like no big deal to us today, but if we had lived just 200 years ago, these epidemics were terrifying to people.  When Sir Isaac Newton was a student, they shut down Trinity College, Cambridge (summer 1665) for two years to avoid the deaths from the plague that might come to the city.

Doesn’t Romans 15:4 say the Old Testament is there for our learning?  Let us look at what Leviticus 15 says.  Imagine you were living at that time and you knew Leviticus was written for your protection.  When your neighbor or family member has a discharge, they are sick.  Something is coming out of their nose or their skin.  When they have this discharge, every single bed that they lay upon is called unclean.  And if you even touch their bed, you are unclean!  And you have to wash yourself and stay away from other people in isolation.  According to what medical science has discovered in the last 150 years, those are great hygiene laws, aren’t they?  

Also notice that anyone who touches that person is unclean.  If he spits on you, you’re unclean.  And even the food containers the sick person ate out of are considered as unclean; in fact, the type of container even matters.  If it is of wood, wash it.  If it is of pottery, break it, and throw it away.  And science today has discovered that wood often harbors anti-bacterial agents.  See Dr. Dean Cliver’s research (microbiologist with the Food Safety Laboratory and World Health Organization) showing the remarkable antibacterial properties of wood, especially compared to today’s plastics.  His research has disproven prior statements from scientists at the Department of Human Nutrition who stated: “for cleanability and control of microorganisms, plastic is the better choice.”  Wrong again.  The Bible says wood.  (Cliver, Penner, Raloff, http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/349)

Again, these are great hygiene laws!  Man didn’t catch up with the Bible until the last 150 years.  Maybe we still have something more to learn.  The following is another example of man’s best medical science before the 1800s and the man who made one of the greatest discoveries in medical science.

Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis.  What was his breakthrough?  In the 1840s he was assigned to the obstetrical ward of the one of the most famous teaching hospitals in the world—in Vienna (Allegermeine Krakenhaus).  He worked in the Division One maternity ward.  Dr. Semmelweis was sick with worry about his patients.  Why?  Because one out of every six of his ward’s patients died every month.  They had about 350 women in this Division One maternity ward and 18% (one out of 6) meant that every month about 57 women did not leave the hospital alive!  (This 18% was only the average in the winter months.  In the summer months the rate often reached 50%.)  The corpses had the same diagnosis—“labor fever.”  They had one thing in common: pus — pus under the eye sockets, pus in the abdomen, pus in the chest.  And labor fever was common in all the major hospitals in the world (even in Paris and London). For three years, these deaths really tore at Dr. Semmelweis’ heart.  He tried everything he could think of to stop his patients from dying.  None of the doctors in the world could figure it out.   

Do you know what was really embarrassing for these doctors?  There was a Division Two maternity ward in their hospital where only about 3% died every month.  So you would expect these educated doctors to closely examine the difference between their practices.  Well, there was one “minor” difference.  The Division Two maternity ward used midwives, not doctors.  Imagine the embarrassment of these highly educated doctors having six times worse results than these uneducated midwives!  You can just imagine the excuses these doctors came up with to justify their terrible results.  They blamed the 18% to 50% on “atmospheric conditions, unremitting constipation, delayed lactation, excessive fear, or cosmic-telluric influences: (McMillen 19, 22; 3^rd ed.) (McMillen 24; 1^st ed.).  But why didn’t these same “conditions” and “influences” cause the same amount of deaths in the Division Two ward?

Women were scared of even going to the hospital because about one in six of them died.  One day Dr. Semmelweis was making rounds with his interns; he suddenly stopped and thought, “Maybe the doctors are carrying something from the dead patients to my live patients.”  So he ordered every intern and every doctor to wash their hands in heavily chlorinated water and dry them on a fresh towel as they came onto his ward.  His students reminded him that his previous theories had not worked: such as, “Maybe we need to turn the women on their sides.”  No, that didn’t work.  “Maybe when the priests come in late at night and rang their bells (to do last rites), the noise is reminding the live women that someone was dying, and it was scaring them to death.”  No, stopping the bells didn’t cause any improvements.

Dr. Semmelweis had finally “connected the dots.”  He realized that the doctors do autopsies on dead bodies each morning.  Then they wash their hands (that had just been inside rotting pus-filled flesh) in plain water - without any soap or antiseptic - and dry them on the same towel, after which they come into his maternity ward to do pelvic examinations on live women.  Today we say, “No wonder the women died!”   But doctors didn’t know anything about germs at this time.  The germ theory of disease would not be invented for more than another decade by a different (and famous) Bible believing scientist named Louis Pasteur.

So when Dr. Semmelweis made all the doctors wash their hands in heavily chlorinated water that smelled really bad what did the doctors say?  They said Dr. Semmelweis was a quack or that he had gone crazy.  But a month after he instituted this new hand-washing, the results showed that he was right.  In April of 1847, the month before hand-washing was started, the typical 18% (about 57) women died of “labor fever.”  The month after, the death rate plummeted to less than 3% (about 8 women).  The month after that, only 1% died (about 4 women).

That’s good science.  That’s testable, repeatable science—57 down to 4.  This is fantastic progress!  His last improvement, from 3% down to 1%, occurred because he had started making the doctors wash their hands between every single patient. He did this because he noticed that in a row of twelve women, eleven caught labor fever and died.  So he theorized that some disease could also be passed between live patients (the first one examined had already been sick and therefore passed the disease to the others).  The results were that even fewer women died.  Scientifically, if you come up with a method that goes from 57 deaths a month to 4, you save 53 lives!  That’s a great breakthrough!  That means that over 90% of the women who would have died now remained alive.  This was one of the greatest discoveries in all of medical science. 

Dr. Semmelweis and his fellow doctors were all scientists.  And scientists are unbiased, right?  If the data says something works, they’ll follow it—especially medical doctors.  After all, they are constantly searching for ways to help their patients heal.  They have dedicated their lives to healing people.  Guess what these scientists did when shown the overwhelming evidence?  They continued to ridicule him, make fun of him, called him Dr. Clean Freak, and finally made sure he lost his job and was not allowed to practice medicine on live patients in any hospital in Vienna.  Perhaps they didn’t like their hands getting chapped, or they didn’t like the smell.  It didn’t fit their theories.  So after he was fired they threw out his washbasins, towels, and chlorine.  Guess what happened?  The death rate shot back up to 18% in the winter and sometimes 50% in the summer.  Did they now believe him?  Did they change?  No.  And the women just kept dying, month after month.  Dr. S. I. McMillen wrote of these men: “Even the world-renowned pathologist Rudolf Virchow continued to ridicule Semmelweis.  We mortals might as well face it; our heads are so hardened by pride and prejudice that proof can rarely penetrate them” (McMillen 25; 1^st ed.).

Dr. Semmelweis traveled 135 miles down the Danube River to his home town in Budapest and got a job in another maternity ward.  He instituted the same washing procedures there and got the same fantastic results, but even the scientists there didn’t believe his theory or take his advice.  He documented his work in a 543-page book to show the overwhelming evidence for this new theory.  Most of his jealous peers did not even read it.  His results proved hospitals could avoid killing thousands of their patients.  Did anyone listen?  No.  But at least in Budapest they let him keep doing his job.  So a lot of women’s lives were saved in Budapest because of his efforts.  These same hygiene laws work today regarding dead bodies and hand washing.

Even in modern American hospitals, more than two million patients catch infections during their hospitalization each year.  Most of these infections are transmitted on the hands of medical personal.  I have seen doctors and nurses examine patients without first washing their hands.  They carry germs from one patient to another.  Two million a year!  What a tragedy—a preventable tragedy. The modern medical text book still says: “Routine hand washing is to be done before, between, and after contact with patients.  This is the most important feature of infection control” (McMillen 24; 3^rd ed.).

 Bible’s water of purification.  What if these maternity ward doctors had followed the Old Testament rules about touching dead bodies?  What did the Bible say?  The Bible said to use what was called the “water of purification.”  This water was used on anyone who had touched a dead body or had been touched by someone else, who had touched a dead body.  The Israelites had to use this water on people, vessels, and tents.  This method of hygiene included the “water of purification,” time for the object to dry (3^rd and 7^th days), and isolation.  What was in the water?  This “water of purification” was made the same way we make lye soap (water passed through ashes).  It also had an antiseptic agent: thymol (the one in Listerine), which came from the hyssop branches (actually it is an isomer of thymol, called carvacrol), and it had scrubbing enabling agents (cedar oil and wool).  Consider this description of good hygiene from Numbers 19

“‘He who touches the dead body of anyone shall be unclean seven days.  He shall purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day; then he will be clean.  But if he does not purify himself on the third day and on the seventh day, he will not be clean.  Whoever touches the body of anyone who has died, and does not purify himself, defiles the tabernacle of the LORD.  That person shall be cut off from Israel.  He shall be unclean, because the water of purification was not sprinkled on him; his uncleanness is still on him (11-13).     

This is the law when a man dies in a tent: All who come into the tent and all who are in the tent shall be unclean seven days; and every open vessel, which has no cover fastened on it, is unclean.  Whoever in the open field touches one who is slain by a sword or who has died, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days (14-16).

And for an unclean person they shall take some of the ashes of the heifer burnt for purification from sin, and running water shall be put on them in a vessel.  A clean person shall take hyssop and dip it in the water, sprinkle it on the tent, on all the vessels, on the persons who were there, or on the one who touched a bone, the slain, the dead, or a grave.  The clean person shall sprinkle the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day; and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, wash his clothes, and bathe in water; and at evening he shall be clean (17-19).

 But the man who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person shall be cut off from among the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD.  The water of purification has not been sprinkled on him; he is unclean.  It shall be a perpetual statute for them.  He who sprinkles the water of purification shall wash his clothes; and he who touches the water of purification shall be unclean until evening.  Whatever the unclean person touches shall be unclean; and the person who touches it shall be unclean until evening’” (20-22).

Let’s see what happens when men fail to start with the Old Testament hygiene laws?  What happens when men ignore the other medical statements made in the Bible? 

Do you remember what happened to George Washington?  In 1799, he came down with a chill (cold or flu).  From all we can tell today, medical science does not think this sickness should have killed George Washington.  But in the 1800s the best medical science believed that sickness was caused by bad vapors in the blood.  Medical science thought if some of that bad blood was let out, the patient would get better; so they practiced bleeding.  They made a small cut on the arm and put some leeches on it to suck out some blood.  That’s what they did to George Washington.  He was sick; so they “blood let” him, but he didn’t get any better.  Therefore, they bled him some more, and he died!  Doctors know today that they should not have bled him.  (You can read about Martha Washington’s grandson’s account online at http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/washington.htm) 

If they had just made sure that none of their medical procedures violated any Biblical texts, they could probably have avoided this tragedy.  The Bible says in Leviticus 17:11 that “the life of the flesh is in the blood,” and in verse 14 it makes it even clearer: “for it is the life of all flesh. Its blood sustains its life.”  Those who really honor what God says would be very cautious about removing any of that blood. 

Ancient Medicine:  Ask yourself this question:  If you lived in the Mesopotamia region, say in Assyria or near Babylon, who would you want as your medical doctor?  If you lived 3500 years ago in Babylon and your father was the king, he would probably want a good doctor to take care of you, wouldn’t he?  We know from the archaeology records that some of these kings did just that.  By the way, this medical documentation dates all the way back to the time of Moses, in about 1500 BC., as seen in the Edwin Smith Papyrus, Ebers Papyrus, and Heart Papyrus (9, 13).  These kings would bring the best medical doctors in the world up to Babylon to take care of them and their families.  Where did they get these great doctors?  They brought them from Egypt because Egyptian doctors were considered the best in the world.  At least, that is what they thought.  Homer's Odyssey states that "the Egyptians were skilled in medicine more than any other art."

What happened if a person cut himself and wanted to put a salve over it to protect it or to help it heal, or suppose he got a splinter in his finger?  After all, if his father is the king; he will get the best medical treatment in the world.  The Egyptian doctor would prescribe a medical ointment to put on the splinter.  He would assure the patient, “This will cause that splinter to just pop right out.”  The patient might say, “Say, Doc, what is in that salve?”   The answer would be, “We use a mixture of worm’s blood and donkey dung.  All doctors know that getting your body to produce more pus is good for you.  This will help your body produce more pus and help heal your wound.” What was a typical ingredient in the ointments and salves made by these world-famous doctors?  Urine & feces!

Don’t laugh.  Up until the last 200 years (even into the 1800s), medical science taught that getting the body to create more pus was good.  Now, how many of you today want some worm’s blood and donkey dung to put on your child’s splinter?  Any volunteers?  That’s repulsive, isn’t it?  A person might die of lockjaw or a few other diseases, but at least the splinter would pop out!

These are disgusting practices!  These world-famous Egyptian doctors’ most common ingredient for their ointments and salves was urine or feces.  Yet today, scientists have discovered that tetanus spores and other germs are rampant in the excrements of animals.  But remember, Moses was raised in all the “wisdom of the Egyptians” (Acts 7:22).  So how come he didn’t put some of these disgusting practices of the best doctors in the world into the Bible?  How did Moses avoid this mistake?  How did he happen to leave out all these errors from the greatest medical science of his day?

After all, wouldn’t he be expected to put some of his superior Egyptian education into the Bible?  That’s what all the other medical writings of man have always done, yet the Bible did not.  Notice what Bruce Allen writes in his essay, “4 Reasons Why You Should Read the Bible”:

Pretty disgusting stuff today, yet you would think that if these culture's medical practices were so respected by the rest of the world, the Bible would just mimic what they taught.  But it doesn't!  Of all the sacred writings of every major religion in the world, only the Bible sidesteps the errors that pervaded the medical sciences of its time.  In fact, scholars are nearly unanimous in attributing the world's first system of sanitary laws to the precepts laid down in the first five books of the Bible (http://www.creationwiki.org/Bible_scientific_foreknowledge, ~pg 12).

Men may try to get around this evidence by saying these hygiene laws were just religious rituals.  But they would be ignoring the obvious point.  How come none of these “religious rituals” included any bad hygiene laws?  And find one other religion that had religious rituals that included the greatest hygiene laws the world had ever seen.  The Bible has to be from God because man has never been able to come up with such “rituals” on his own.  And when men try to modify God’s Word by doing something to “improve” it, we find out later that God’s original message was better.  See what the Jews added to circumcision called metzitzah to prevent infection (McMillen 85; 3^rd ed., starting on the bottom of pg. 84).

Remember, God promised Israel: If you will follow My laws and My statutes, I will put upon you none of these diseases.  The Bible was way ahead of medical science for thousands of years.  The Bible got it right long before man ever figured it out.  So why haven’t the majority of men followed the Bible?  And why have the majority of men always attacked God’s Word?  They have foolishly done so because this planet is in a spiritual battle for men’s souls.  The majority of men have never submitted to the Bible, so they have to attack what it says by claiming they have superior knowledge and the Bible has mistakes.  Remember Jesus said the vast majority would wind up in Hell (Matt. 7:13-15).  Do not fear their bad science, but fear God (Matt. 10:28).

No Sheba.  Take the science of archaeology.  In the early 1800’s to mid 1800’s many “experts” said the kingdom of Sheba (her queen came to visit Solomon) never existed.  Skeptics said her kingdom didn’t exist—the Bible made it up.  What was their proof that the Bible was wrong?  Nothing.  Zero evidence.

Evolutionists and the other people who attack the Bible are so determined, that if they cannot find proof that the Bible is right, they automatically assume it is wrong.  Yet they do not treat the writings of famous men that they like in such a manner.  What hypocrites!  A lack of corroboration does not prove the Bible wrong.  And, unfortunately for them, archaeologists have now have found the remains from the capital city of Sheba (Marib) in southern Arabia.  Other archaeologists believe they have found evidence in Egypt for this kingdom of Sheba.

No camels:  In another attack, Bible skeptics used to say, “No, no, no.  There were no domesticated camels in Egypt during the time of Abraham!  The Bible is wrong!”  Again, how much evidence do they have?  Zero.  Like today’s academic professors, if they cannot find it the Bible has to be wrong.  Imagine if they applied this same reasoning in a court of law: “I don’t have any evidence corroborating your testimony; so that proves you are lying!”  But once again they now have egg all over their faces.  Archaeology now has multiple evidences and has even found ropes in Egypt made out of camel’s hair that dates back to before 2000 BC.  (http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/1781)

The Hittites: Bible-haters used to say (before 1906):  “The Bible is wrong; there was never such a nation as the Hittites!  If such a powerful nation had existed, as the Bible claims, we would have already found it.”  Once again, these “scholars” had no evidence, and once again they got egg all over their faces.  Archaeologists found the capital city of the Hittites (Boghazkoy) in modern day Turkey.  They have recovered more than 10,000 clay tablets testifying to the Hittite culture.  (http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/1750)

No Alphabet in Moses Time:  But do the skeptics change their minds in the face of these facts?  No, they just try some other way of attacking God’s Word.  They say: ”Oh, Moses?  He couldn’t have written Genesis.  There is no way could he have written Genesis because no such alphabet script existed in the days of Moses!”  Now they’ve found over four different proofs that such writing not only existed during the time of Moses—but that the four alphabets they discovered were similar to the Hebrew script.  (See the tablet found at Ras Shamra in 1949 by C. No Grapes.  Another attack of theirs is:  “The Egyptians did not cultivate grapes back in the time of Joseph.”  Even an ancient Greek historian confirmed this allegation.  The Bible teaches that Joseph interpreted the cupbearer’s dream, in which the cupbearer was squeezing out the grapes into Pharaoh’s cup.  Again, this denial of Biblical truth goes all the way back to the famous Greek historian Herodotus.  Therefore skeptics say, “The Bible has got to be wrong because we know the Egyptians did not cultivate grapes.  Even Herodotus (famous for his historical writings 450 years before Christ) said there was no evidence for this!”  Yet archaeologists have now discovered an Egyptian mural from this time period that shows a wine party.  On one corner of the mural it even shows a noble lady throwing up into a bowl being held by her servant.

Spelling Test for Historians:  Now this evidence is fascinating, but it takes a little bit of explanation.  Let us compare the historical accuracy of man’s best historians, with the Bible.  Who do you think would win the contest?  If the Old Testament was just written by some Hebrew wanderers, then the Bible should lose. Imagine you are back in school and you are given a spelling test. You have to name all the presidents of the United States, in order, and spell their names correctly.  How well would you do?  If you were considered one of the greatest historians who ever lived and you could go to the library to look up all the answers, you would expect to do very well.  But what if you misspelled over 90% of the names and left out 20% of the presidents.  And what if this was the best that anyone has ever done?

We have the names of kings and pharaohs, and the order in which they lived.  They are recorded by some of the most respected ancient historians (such as Herodotus, the Librarian at Alexandria, Ptolemy, et al.).  How well did they spell the names of the kings in their lists?  Did they get all the kings right?  Did they leave some of them out?  We now know they did not do very well.  How can we tell?  These famous historians misspelled the ancient kings’ names so badly that we cannot use any of their writings to correct anyone else’s mistakes.  We cannot even assume that the spelling used by the majority of these historians is the correct spelling.  So how do we know which one is right?

Think for a moment.  What is the chance of someone misspelling a king or pharaoh’s name while he’s alive, in the city in which he reigns, and on the monument made to him?  If a writing or monument was created while this king lived and in the city where he reigned, we would expect the spelling to be really close.  We would not expect the accuracy of historians living a few hundred years later to be as good.  Perhaps when they transliterated the name into their alphabet-language, they added or deleted a few letters.  Perhaps the document from which they got the kings’ names had a few mistakes.  All the ancient historians’ records, therefore, need to be compared with these types of monuments.  The fact is that, in every ancient historian’s list of kings, the names are so badly misspelled that we can barely recognize a few of them (Wilson 73). 

How well did the secular historian Ptolemy do?  Out of the 22 kings that reigned over Babylon from Nabunasir (#1 above) to Nabu-na’id (#18 above) inclusive, Ptolemy only mentions 18 (and he only mentions 10 out of the 18 that reigned from Cyrus to Darius Codomannus).  The 18 names above are from the interlinear transliteration of the kings’ proper names.  The first spelling is from the well respected historian Ptolemy, and the one underneath it is the correct spelling—the one from monuments erected during the time the king lived, many of which were under the king’s supervision.

The secular historians rarely spelled even one name correctly.  Ptolemy did not get one spelling correct in this list and also left out four kings.  How accurate is the Bible?  There are 29 kings mentioned in the Bible that have been found by archaeologists on monuments and documents made when those kings reigned.  We can also compare the lists of the order in which the kings reigned.  Wayne Jackson comments on this point:

If anyone talks against the Bible, ask him about the kings mentioned in it. There are 29 kings of Egypt, Israel, Moab, Damascus, Tyre, Babylon, Assyria, and Persia referred to, and ten different countries among these twenty-nine; all of which are included in the Bible accounts and those of the monuments. Every one of these is given his right name in the Bible, his right country, and placed in the correct chronological order (63).

Out of the 29 proper names, there are a total of 195 consonants (remember Hebrew did not have any vowels).  Only two or three consonants out of these 195 have any possibility of being in error.  Compare this to all the secular historians.  This research was done by Dr. Robert Dick Wilson and published his great volume, A Scientific Investigation of the Old Testament. 

But you might ask, “How is this comparison done between languages that do not even use the same alphabet?”  Transliteration is used.  Let me give you the definition of transliteration according to the Wikipedia, “transliteration is the practice of converting a text from one writing system into another in a systematic way.  From an information-theoretical point of view, transliteration is a mapping from one system of writing into another, word by word, or ideally letter by letter.  Transliteration attempts to use a one-to-one correspondence and be exact, so that an informed reader should be able to reconstruct the original spelling of unknown transliterated words.  To achieve this objective, transliteration may define complex conventions for dealing with letters in a source script which do not correspond with letters in a goal script.”

Transliteration is opposed to transcription, which specifically maps the sounds of one language to the best matching script of another language.

Notice in the above example that you could transliterate the two words back from English to Greek and not have an error in spelling.  Transliteration and kings names on monuments proves once again that man has never written a book of history as accurate as the Bible.  When we can check the facts, the Bible turns out to be beyond the capabilities of man.

FAMOUS SCIENTISTS
who glorified God using their science.

Now remember, as we discuss these men, that God did not say that these scientists who gave Him honor were going to be saved in eternity, did He?  (The Jews were specially blessed by God for over 1400 years, yet most of them did not follow His word accurately enough to be saved.)  These scientists, like all others, have to be properly obedient to His Word.  Most were not.  Yet they gave God honor and used the Bible in their science.  When you start from the foundation of truth (God’s Word), it makes finding the truths in science (God’s World) much easier.  Remember the treasure hunting example in the introduction?  Let us see some famous scientists who used God’s treasure map.

Johannes Kepler:  He’s the father of modern-day astronomy, but did your textbooks tell you that he spent two years at seminary studying the Bible?  He is well-known for his work in Mathematics, Astronomy, Optics, the three laws of planetary motion (He is called “the Father of Celestial Mechanics”), eyeglasses, telescopes, human vision, refraction:  Johannes Kepler is considered one of the top 10 scientists of all time, and he spent two years studying to be a Lutheran minister.  He said, “Since we astronomers are priests of the highest God in regard to the book of nature, it befits us to be thoughtful, not of the glory of our minds, but rather, above all else, of the glory of God.”  Even after he became famous, he said, “Let also my name perish if only the name of God the Father is elevated.”  He also said he was merely “thinking God’s thoughts after Him.”  He pursued science as a mission from God.  What?  You mean, Bible believers can do better science?  Yes.

Blaise Pascal.  He’s one of the inventors of hydrostatics.  He also gave us differential calculus (if you think calculus is fun, wait till you hit differential calculus), and the Theory of Probability.  He was instrumental in the sciences of hydrodynamics, hydrostatics (Pascal’s Law), and mathematics, but his best known work was titled: A Defense of the Christian Religion.  Pascal did not understand how any thinking man could deny the Bible.  He was outraged by their lack of study and understanding.  He said, “Men despise religion; they hate it and fear it is true.  To remedy this, we must begin by showing that religion is not contrary to reason; that it is venerable, to inspire respect for it; then we must make it lovable, to make good men hope it is true; finally, we must prove it is true.” He was also well known for something called Pascal’s wager which said, “How can anyone lose who chooses to be a Christian.”

Robert Boyle.  He was one of the fathers of Modern Chemistry.  He discovered Boyle’s Law (relating to pressure), introduced Physics, and was a Founder of the Royal Society (the first and longest lasting scientific society in the world; its founding members were mostly Puritan Christians).  Boyle was largely self-taught.  He did not earn a degree or professorship, yet he became the most eminent scientist in Britain of his time.  He did mission work, learned Hebrew and Greek, and defended the Christian religion against all comers.  Do school textbooks tell you about his religious activities?  He did evangelism himself, personally traveling to foreign countries.  He paid out of his own pocket to have the Bible translated into other languages so that his missionaries would have the proper tools.  When he died, he set aside funds for something called the Boyle Lectures.  Now remember, he’s a famous chemist!  So the Boyle Lectures has to be about chemistry, right?  No!  He wanted to make sure he continued to influence people for the Lord after his death.  His will established these annual Boyle Lectures to “prove the Christian Religion” against atheism and all philosophies of man.  None of my science textbooks ever mentioned this fact.  Again, Bible believers can do better science.

Nicolaus Steno and John Woodward were actually flood geologists, and they are considered the founders of the science of geology.

Carolus Linnaeus was the father of Biological Taxonomy.  He said he was trying to discover the original Genesis “KINDS.”

Samuel B. Morse invented the telegraph and Morse code, dot, dash, dot, dot, dash.  The first message he sent on his telegraph was Numbers 23:23: “What hath God wrought?”  He became the first person to have the Chair of Fine Arts in this country.  He also is credited with saying:  “The nearer I approach the end of my pilgrimage, the clearer is the evidence of the divine origin of the Bible…”

William Prout was the scientist who identified fats, proteins, carbohydrates, and atomic weights; he called his science natural theology.

Joseph Henry.  Which of the following institutions were led by a Bible-believing “Christian” who prayed for guidance in his experiments and accepted the Biblical creation account as true?

1.    The Smithsonian Institute

2.    The American Association for the Advancement of Science

3.    The Princeton University science department

4.    The National Academy of Sciences

In the 1800s, all of these had been led by the same man, Joseph Henry.  He invented the electro-magnetic motor.  We’ve even got a constant in physics called the Henry.  He was very famous during his lifetime, but after he died, scientists realized that his fame had come from his lesser works.  He had discovered some of science’s top ideas before other scientists, who actually received the credit for their discovery.  Joseph Henry had not published his discoveries soon enough.  The Smithsonian is trying to correct these mistakes of history.  More importantly, Joseph Henry said he prayed for Divine guidance at his scientific experiments.  Bible believers do better science.

Louis Agassiz is considered the greatest science teacher of the late 1800’s.  He was a paleontologists, glaciologist, and geologist.  He is called the Father of Glaciology.  Even secular Wikipedia says, “He was the first to scientifically propose that the earth had been subject to a past ice age. … Agassiz is remembered today for his theories on ice ages, and for his resistance to Charles Darwin's theories on upward evolution, which he kept up his entire life.”  He was one of many famous scientists who scientifically refuted Darwin.

George Stokes made important contributions in fluid mechanics, the wave theory of light, fluorescence, light polarization, and the application of spectroscopy to solar and stellar chemistry.  He was the President (1885-1890) of the Royal Society (the greatest science group in the world).  Even Wikipedia admits: “In 1886, Stokes became president of the Victoria Institute, a Christian institute founded in response to the evolutionary movement of the 1860s.”

Gregory Mendel was a monk who discovered the whole science of genetics between 1856 and 1863.  When his work on genetics was re-discovered in the early 1900s, upward evolutionists had to give up on Darwin’s original theory (published 1859).  But the evolutionists realized that the public would revolt if they kept changing the names of their theories as they had done for over 2000 years (yes, even the ancient Greeks had upward evolutionary theories).  Darwin’s theory had become too popular.  Yet evolutionists now knew that genetics disproved Darwin’s mechanism for evolution (see Lamarkism and pangenesis).  So evolutionists kept the popular name “Darwin” and called the new theory “neo-Darwinism”.  If Mendel's discovery of genetics had not been ignored by science for over 50 years, Darwin’s ideas would have failed to gain popularity.

Louis Pasteur.  If you are drinking milk, you are benefiting from one of his discoveries: pasteurization.  Louis Pasteur formulated the germ theory of disease!  He contributed more to the saving of human lives than any other scientist!  He is considered the greatest biologist of all time.  He revolutionized medicine and public health with his discoveries.

Yet the whole biological establishment could not stand the fact that he disproved spontaneous generation.  He proved that life cannot come from non-life (this is now called the most fundamental law of Biology).  The world had been teaching upward evolution—that life came from non-life.  He is another famous scientist who refuted Darwin scientifically.  Look at how one author described what Pasteur had to put up with: “During his lifetime he was intensely persecuted by the entire biological establishment for his opposition to spontaneous generation and to Darwinism (upward evolution). Only his persistence and sound experiments finally compelled biologists to stop treating their patients’ diseases with evolutionary-based ideas.”  Following Pasteur’s discoveries saved lives.  Remember how following the Bible’s Old Testament hygiene laws saved lives?  Remember how George Washington died?  Bible believers do better science.

Henri Fabre is the Father of Entomology (study of insects).  He was a physicist, chemist, and botanist.  Fabre said, "After 87 years of thought and observation, I say not merely that I believe in God—I can even say that I see Him."

Lord Kelvin was the most eminent scientist of his day in the British Isles.  (21 honorary doctorates)  He took the many areas of science and applied them to practical applications; therefore, he is largely responsible for the rise of the concept of engineering.  His most famous work was for defining the concept of energy and formalizing the laws of thermodynamics.  Yet he recognized the rise of Darwinism for both its bad science and evil influence.  He argued against the top Darwinists of his day and showed that the Earth cannot be as old as they claimed.  Bible believers do better science.

James Clerk Maxwell:  If you recognize his name, you are a true student of science.  Einstein said that Maxwell had made the most fruitful breakthrough in physics in the whole 1800’s.  Here is a quote from Dr. Coppedge’s on-line book: 

Do you use a cell phone?  A pager?  A remote control for your TV?  A radio?  Television?  You owe these inventions in large part to Maxwell.   Radar, satellite, spacecraft and aircraft communications—any and every means of transferring information through thin air or the vacuum of space, comes out of his work.  The inventors of all these devices all built on Maxwell’s exceptional discoveries in electromagnetism, discoveries that required the best in experimental method with the best in mathematics and theory.

And yet look what else he did—he mathematically refuted the evolutionary “nebular hypothesis” that is still being taught in college textbooks today!  That means it was proven wrong over 100 years ago, and it still shows up in science textbooks.  Why?  The reason is that upward evolutionists do not have a better “Hollywood Story” for the origin of our solar system.  He also scientifically refuted Darwin and other evolutionary philosophers.  They don’t tell you about that part.  He was also a Scottish Presbyterian Elder.  Bible believers do better science!

Sir Ambrose Fleming, in the 1900s, was one of the pioneers of electronics.  His inventions help in the areas of photometry, electronics, and wireless telegraphy.  He was knighted for his inventions in 1929.  He was also a Christian apologist.  He wrote one major book against upward evolution and was the Founder and first president of the Evolution Protest Movement.  Better science does start with God’s Word.

George Washington Carver.  How many inventions can one man be expected to come up with?  This man was amazing!  George Washington Carver (1864-1943) was the Father of Agricultural Chemistry.  He saved poor southern farmers by developing 325 products from peanuts and 188 products from sweet potatoes.  He was born a slave, yet he succeeded beyond anyone’s dreams.  Just a few of these products could have made him a rich man, but Carver made them available for free.  He often rose at 4:00 AM to go into his favorite woods to pray.  Each day he would ask, “Lord, what do you want me to do today?  He felt the Creator should have the credit for putting all this richness into the plants He had made.  He said, “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.”  He attributed all his success and ability to God.  He truly understood Romans 1:20—that man is without excuse for not concluding that God exist, based upon the world (and universe) we see!

Wilbur and Orville Wright are associated with airplanes.  How did two men who were only high school graduates (actually, one of them did not graduate) beat all the Ph.D.’s in the world in achieving controlled powered flight?  They gave God the glory and said they studied God’s design in birds to understand how to design controlled powered flight.  Did you know their father was a bishop?  Wilbur Wright used to write letters for his father against the religious errors of groups within their denomination.  And his father, the bishop, used to brag about how the Bible continued to influence his boys, long after they became famous.  Powered flight is yet another advance in science made by Bible-believers who were inspired by God’s design in nature.

Wernher von Braun.  In the words of NASA, he is "without doubt, the greatest rocket scientist in history.”  He had more honorary doctorate degrees (25) than anybody before.  You know what some upward evolutionists say about him today?  “He’s a second-rate scientist because he believes in Creation.”  They cannot stand the fact that he wrote a letter to the school board of California, saying they should be teaching the scientific evidences for Creation in their public school science classes.  Sept 14, 1972 he said;

“Dear Mr. Grose:  …One cannot be exposed to the law and order of the universe without concluding that there must be design and purpose behind it all.  ...  The better we understand the intricacies of the universe and all harbors, the more reason we have found to marvel at the inherent design upon which it is based.  ...  the scientific method does not allow us to exclude data which lead to the conclusion that the universe, life and man are based on design.  To be forced to believe only one conclusion—that everything in the universe happened by chance—would violate the very objectivity of science itself. …”

His article in the American Weekly, Feb 10, 1963 was titled “My Faith, A space-age scientist tells why he must believe in God.”  (http://www.creationsafaris.com/wgcs_4.htm#vonbraun )  The article said,

“The two most powerful forces shaping our civilization today are science and religion.  Through science man strives to learn more of the mysteries of creation.  Through religion he seeks to know the creator.  Neither operates independently.  It is as difficult for me to understand a scientist who does not acknowledge the presence of a superior rationality behind the existence of the universe as it is to comprehend a theologian who would deny the advances of science.  Far from being independent or opposing forces, science and religion are sisters.  …  The knowledge that man can choose between good and evil should draw him closer to his creator.  Next, the realization should dawn that his survival here and hereafter depends on his adherence to the spiritual rather than the scientific.  Our decisions undeniably influence the course of future events.  Nature around us still harbors more unsolved than solved mysteries.  But science has mastered enough of these forces to usher in a golden age for all mankind, if this power is used for good—or to destroy us, if evil triumphs.  The ethical guidelines of religion are the bonds that can hold our civilization together.  Without them man can never attain that cherished goal of lasting peace with himself, his God, and his fellowman.”

Even as early as 1945 at the end of WW2 when speaking of surrendering his rocket team to the Americans, he said, “We wanted to see the world spared another conflict such as Germany had just been through, and we felt that only by surrendering such a weapon to people who are guided by the Bible could such an assurance to the world be best secured.”  (David Wolper, television series, Biography (1961-64), Wernher von Braun.)

Wernher von Braun warned us that the golden age of science can be used to destroy us and society will never find peace without God.  Remember, most of the things that have benefited mankind on this planet came from the 30% who claim to have some belief in Christianity.  The foundation of truth is God’s Word.  Bible believers do better science.

Michael Faraday is the last scientist I want to mention.  Some people call him the greatest experimental physicist of all time.  He said:  “The Bible and it alone is the only standard that you can have in religion.”  He was an elder in a religious group called the Sandemanians.  They taught “the Bible and the Bible only.”  Alexander Campbell (greatest religious apologist in the 1800s) was exposed to some of these ideas, which influenced him and others in America.  Dr. Coppedge stated:

“The wealth generated by the inventions based on Faraday’s discoveries exceed the value of the British stock exchange (probably an understatement). Yet Faraday never sought financial profit from his work. He accepted a cottage from the government in his senior years, but rebuffed honors. When the queen wanted to knight him, he declined, wishing to remain plain old Mr. Faraday to the end. The glory of Jesus Christ was the only reward he sought.”

He was incredibly famous, even though he was not allowed to go to a college such as Oxford or Cambridge because of religious reasons.  The religious group he followed stuck too close to the Bible, being more conservative than the Protestant denominations.  He became great anyways.  His scientific achievements were so immense that they allowed him into the Royal Society (society of the greatest scientists in the world).  He became so well-known that he would give demonstrations to other famous scientists.  Large audiences of scientists and politicians would come to listen to Faraday explain some of his experiments.  The following account shows his priorities.

One night a crowded gathering of distinguished scientists had been listening spellbound to the masterly expositions of Michael Faraday.  For an hour he had held his brilliant audience enthralled as he demonstrated the nature and properties of the magnet.  He had brought his lecture to a close with an experiment so novel, so bewildering, and so triumphant that for some time after he resumed his seat the house rocked with enthusiastic applause.  

Keep this picture in your mind—he did such a good job that the top scientists in the world were amazed and gave him a standing ovation.  Wow!  So what happened next? 

The Prince of Wales, who would become King Edward the 7^th, rose to propose a motion of congratulations.  The resolution, having been duly seconded, was carried with renewed thunders of applause.  Suddenly the uproar ceased and a strange silence settled over the audience.  The assembly was waiting for Faraday’s response.  But he had left the building.

Only his most intimate friends knew what had become of him.  He was an elder in a little Sandemanian church, and the hour at which he concluded his lecture was the hour of the weeknight prayer meeting.  (notes from a source now unavailable)

You mean, the next king of England was leading the way in praising him and an audience of the world’s top scientists was giving him thunderous applause, and he had something better to do?  That’s right.  Faraday was going to what today we call “Wednesday night Bible study.”  Is that what you would do?  He was not concerned with the praises of men.  He was concerned with obeying God!  Hebrews 5:9 says Jesus “became the author of eternal salvation to all them who obey Him”.  Faraday had a firm conviction in the God of the Bible and obeyed.

How firm is your belief in God?  Do you really believe that the Bible is from God?  Can you prove it?  If you cannot prove the Bible is from God, why should anyone listen to you?  You are supposed to be ready to give an answer (apologetic, logical evidence, step by step) to anyone who asks you.  1 Peter 3:15 does not say to be ready to give your opinion.  Why is your opinion any better than someone else’s?  So remember some of these evidences for the Bible’s inspiration that you have read today.

When you hear about all these famous scientists and all the scientific disciplines they started, did you notice your school textbooks never mentioned how they said their science glorified God?  Verify these facts for yourself: Most of the great scientists of the past 1000 years;

1.    Were creationists, and they stood up for God’s word against their unbelieving colleagues.

2.    Said the Bible was the driving force (their treasure map) behind their scientific discoveries.

3.    Show that the Christian world view was the motivating force behind modern science. (other cultures had gods who were too much like human beings – they kept changing their minds and fought with each other)

The evidences in the Bible convinced these great men. Will those same evidences (and many more that science has discovered) convince you and your friends?

Summary

Men have always ridiculed the Bible.  Science has always come up with ideas that supposedly make the Bible wrong.  Remember, if you lived 500 years ago, you knew the Bible was wrong when it said the stars were uncountable, just like the sand on the sea shores.  Yet look what the Bible got right long before science discovered them; stars, water cycles, springs of the sea, ocean trenches, paths of the sea, waters of purification, kings names, hygiene laws, etc.  When medical science did not start with God’s Word, millions died in epidemic plagues.  How did Abraham know to choose day 8 for circumcision?  Because the master Physician said to do this on day 8.

Great scientists became great because they used God’s Word as their treasure map (starting point).  When you have a good map, it is much easier to find the treasures in God’s world (good science).  Wouldn’t you want God’s Providence on your side?  Look at Louis Pasteur, the Wright brothers, and space exploration with Wernher von Braun.  But if you believe in Creation, as Wernher von Braun did, you will be called a second-rate scientist no matter how many Ph.D.’s you receive.  Are you ready for that?  You had better be.

Back in 1861, the French Academy of Science was the top science academy in France. They proudly listed 51 scientific facts which were considered undisputable, all of which directly contradicted the Bible.  Guess what happened?  Not a single one of those 51 scientific facts is considered as accurate today.  They all turned out to be wrong.  Maybe we should make them write on a chalkboard, “The Bible is right…We were wrong. We were wrong. We were wrong, We were wrong…” 51 times.  

For over 2000 years, the history of upward evolution is the history of attacks against the Bible that have turned out to be wrong.  Why do people expect scientists today to be any better?  Can’t we learn from history?

Historically, the Bible has taught science, and not vice versa.  The foundation of truth is God’s Word.  Even archaeology has provided evidence that the Bible is right.  But every area of science will attack God’s Word because most scientists today are more influenced by atheism than God’s Word. 
1 Corinthians 1:27 says not many wise according to the flesh will make it to heaven.  According to the flesh, secular man, who are the wise ones today?  Scientists.  Therefore, heed God’s warning.  The good news is that it doesn’t take a Ph.D. to shoot down the false ideas from these upward evolutionary scientists.  Over and over, God’s Word shows secular men’s attacks to be but foolishness.

Don’t lose your soul before the truth is verified.  Man’s ideas that go against the Bible are wrong!  The Bible was right, and it is still right!  The evidence is so obvious that man is without excuse.  Therefore, hold onto your faith.  Then prove to others that your faith is based on evidence.  The famous scientists in this article did.  Who would you rather emulate, Michael Faraday, Wernher von Braun, Isaac Newton, etc. or the world’s top atheist - Richard Dawkins?

If you choose science as your profession, who will you be like?  These heroes of science delved into the unknown by using the light of God’s Word to guide their paths (Psalm 89:11-17).  Will you?

Epilog

Why does all this matter?  I believe most readers will understand that this brief list of evidences (there are far more) helps encourage those who have a love for the truth.  But that is not all we can learn from being able to scientifically prove the Bible is from God.  It is true that we need to be able to answer the gainsayers (answer the upward evolutionists – Titus 1:9) and publically refute those who try to weaken our knowledge of God.  But we are not to passively sit by while many are misled by man’s theories.   We follow;

·         Psalms 66:7, He commands His followers to “let not the rebellious exalt themselves.”

·         Jude 3-4, He commands Christians to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”

·         Psalms 1, He tells us not to even learn at the feet of upward evolutionists because it will cause us to be weaker when the troubles of life come.

·         2 Corinthians 10:5, He says to “cast down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God…”

·         1 Timothy 6:20, He says we are to avoid “the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge.” (KJV says “falsely called science.”)

·         Proverbs 25:9, He says "Debate thy cause with thy neighbor himself..." (KJV).

But why would anyone listen to us?  The person who is misled by all the upward evolutionary fairy tales looks at religion and sees nothing but confusion.  How can God be the author of a book that causes such division (denominations)?  The Bible says God is not the author of confusion (1 Cor. 14:33) and He commands unity and condemns denominationalism (1 Cor. 1:10).  So if the evidences above only make you feel more comfortable in your denomination, then they have done you no good. 

The evidences in this article are there to get all of us to FEAR God (Acts 13:26, 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, Hebrews 12:28-29, Ecclesiastes 12:13) and keep His commandments (Hebrews 5:9, John 14:15, Matthew 7:21-23, Luke 6:46).  Just like you want the atheists to examine the evidences against upward evolution, be sure you examine the evidences against denominationalism.  God’s people have always been attacked from without and within.  God said false teachers who sound correct would lead people astray (Acts 20:28-31, Matthew 7:15).  Jesus said few would find the path to eternal life.  Yet over 70% of Americans claim to be Christians.  Does 70% sound like the narrow path and few being saved (Matt 7:13-14)?

Atheists “pick and choose” the “evidences” they want.  They avoid evidences that disprove their theories.  They try to “explain away” the evidences when forced to examine them.  Why?  They do not want to have to change.  They do not want to give up their desires.  They do not want the people they look up to (professors in college or their family) to be wrong.  Why should they change?  They see the denominations doing the same thing!  Denominations pick and choose the Bible verses they like and try to explain away (or ignore) the ones that say they must change.  Who is being the hypocrite —the upward evolutionist who claims he is following the “scientific” evidence where it leads, or the “Christian” who claims he is following the Bible?  Both are being hypocritical.  Neither fears God enough to examine the evidence carefully.  We are to tremble at God’s Word (Isaiah 66:2, Matt 10:28).  We are to submit to the truth even if we do not like it.  We are to correct our leaders even if we have great respect for their Bible knowledge.  We are commanded to have unity, not compromise.  1 Cor. 1:10 says that Christians are to, “… all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” 

Many denominations have even gotten into the entertainment business.  How do they fund these unauthorized activities?  They take up collections on days the Bible does not authorize.  They collect tithes for their preachers even though tithing is never authorized under the New Testament system.  And how do they respond when asked to defend their practices?  These denominational preachers refuse to stand up and defend their different religious positions even though 1 Peter 3:14-15 commands them to.  The evidences in this article should both cause us to tremble at God’s Word and to submit to His plan of salvation.  Only His plan will save us.  Who is authorized to change even one “tiny” part of His plan?  Rev 22:18-19 and Gal 1:8-9 warn us that even the smallest change will condemn us.

Be Smart - Be A Creationist
Let us take a journey through history and learn about the most famous heroes of science.

What motivates you? What do you want to be? Who would you like to be like when you get older? Many times we are motivated by stories of heroes. We choose some famous person who accomplished great things and say we also would like to dedicate our lives to benefit mankind like they did.

But, where did these heroes start? What goal did they set for their lives? What motivated them? What did they believe in? Perhaps if we can follow their beliefs, motivations, and goals, we can do similar great things for mankind.

Now for the shocker: Most of the areas of science were discovered by famous scientists who not only believed in the God of the Bible, but they defended God’s word against the agnostics of their day (technically the term agnostic was not used until the late 1800s). The majority of people on earth have always denied God’s word or compromised on its teachings. Only about 30% of today’s world claims to believe in Christianity. Yet over 90% of all the technological breakthroughs that have benefited mankind have come from this 30%. Why? When you start from a foundation that is true, it is much easier to find your way in this world.

Analogy: Suppose you wanted to travel from Florida to the Grand Canyon. If you had a road map that was correct (truth), then the trip would take some time, but eventually you would get there. But what if your road map was all wrong? You would eventually find the Grand Canyon; it would just take a lot longer.

We are not saying the following scientists were actually Christians as the Bible defines a Christian (they made some mistakes in science and theology).  But they did recognize the truth of the Bible’s account of science and creation and they often defended God’s word against other scientists who attacked God’s word. They followed God’s map and were able to beat their fellow scientists to new discoveries. Now let us travel back in time, to the beginning of what many call the “Age of Science”.

Who is credited for formulating the “scientific method” that all scientists use today? Sir Francis Bacon (1561 – 1626).  Although he did not practice science himself, many historians call him the “Father of Modern Science.” He considered science as a way to honor God as well as protect man from falsehoods. He said “There are two books laid before us to study, to prevent our falling into error: first, the volume of the Scriptures, which reveal the will of God; then the volume of the Creatures, which express His power.”

Johannes Kepler (1571 – 1630) – Mathematics, Astronomy, Optics, Father of Celestial Mechanics. Johannes Kepler is considered one of the top 10 scientists of all time (3 laws of planetary motion, eyeglasses, telescopes, human vision, and refraction). Yet, he spent two years studying to be a Lutheran minister. He said “Since we astronomers are priests of the highest God in regard to the book of nature, it befits us to be thoughtful, not of the glory of our minds, but rather, above all else, of the glory of God.” Even after he became famous, he said, “Let also my name perish if only the name of God the Father is elevated.”  He also said he was merely “thinking God’s thoughts after Him.” He pursued science as a mission from God.

Blaise Pascal (1623 – 1662)  – Hydrodynamics, Hydrostatics  (Pascal’s Law), Mathematics.  Yet is best
known work was to be called “A Defense of the Christian Religion.” Pascal did not understand how
any thinking man could deny the Bible. He was outraged by their lack of study and understanding.
He said, “Men despise religion; they hate it and fear it is true. To remedy this, we must begin by
showing that religion is not contrary to reason; that it is venerable, to inspire respect for it; then we
must make it lovable, to make good men hope it is true; finally, we must prove it is true.” 

Robert Boyle (1627 – 1691) –Father of Chemistry, Boyle’s Law (pressure law), Physics, Founder of Royal Society (first and longest lasting scientific society in the world; its founding members were mostly Puritan Christians). Boyle was largely self-taught.  He did not earn a degree or professorship.  Yet he became the most eminent scientist in Britain of his time. He did mission work, learned Hebrew and Greek, and defended the Christian religion against all comers. He made sure he influenced people after his death. His will established the Boyle Lectures, given every year to “Prove the Christian Religion” against atheism and all philosophies of man.

Sir Isaac Newton (1642 – 1727) – Calculus, Law of Gravity, 3 Laws of Motion, Reflecting Telescope, and much more. Sir Isaac Newton is usually considered the greatest scientist of all time. He said, “All my discoveries have been made in answer to prayer.”  Also, do today’s historians tell you he wrote more works of theology than science? He did. He wrote strong papers refuting atheists and skeptics who denied the Bible’s account of creation.

Michael Faraday (1791 – 1867) – Electric Motor, Generator, Transformer, Electrolysis, and the only physicist to have two physical constants named after him). He is often called the greatest experimental physicist of all time. Faraday was not allowed to attend college due to his religion (Bible-only philosophy). Faraday was a poor uneducated nobody who trusted God, applied himself, and exceeded even his own dreams. He was so good at explaining science that thousands showed up for his science lectures. He was a real life “Cinderella story.” His discoveries revolutionized the world economy. Yet, he once left an auditorium while an audience of scientists (and the next King of England) were giving him a standing ovation and wanted to award him more honors. Why did he leave? Because it was time to go to the weekly prayer meeting. In his Bible he underlined both 1 Timothy 6:20-21 and Romans 1:20 (beware of science falsely so called, and the evidence for God, from nature, is so great that man is without excuse).

Joseph Henry (1797 – 1878) – Called the American Faraday. He said he stopped and prayed for Divine guidance at every important step in his experiments.  Suppose you were to ask, “Which of the following scientific institutions were led by a strong Bible believer who accepted the Biblical account of Creation as true: Smithsonian Institution (now the largest museum complex in the world), American Association for the Advancement of Science, Princeton University (science department), or the National Academy of Sciences? If this were the 1800s, then the answer would be all of these. Joseph Henry said, “God has created man in his own intellectual image, and graciously permitted him to study His modes of operation, .…”

Gregor Mendel (1822 – 1884)  – Genetics, Botany.  The science of genetics was discovered by a Gregorian monk named Gregory Mendel. Modern Biology is based on Gregorian genetics.

James Clerk Maxwell (1831 – 1879) – Physics, Maxwell’s Equations, Father of Electromagnetism, Father of Statistical Thermodynamics and Kinetic Theory. Einstein said the greatest breakthrough in modern physics came from Maxwell. Yet Maxwell was a Presbyterian elder and was one of the first scientists to scientifically refute Darwin. He said, “Teach us to study the works of Thy hands that we may subdue the earth to our use and strengthen our reason for Thy service; and so to receive Thy blessed Word, that we may believe on Him whom Thou hast sent to give us the knowledge of salvation and the remission of our sins.”

Louis Pasteur (1822 – 1895) – Germ theory of disease, greatest Biologist of all time, contributed to the saving of lives more than any other person. He was intensely persecuted by biologists for his opposition to upward evolution and Darwin’s new theory. He refuted their arguments and proved that life cannot come from non-life.

George Washington Carver (1864 – 1943) – Agricultural Chemistry, saved poor southern farmers by developing 325 products from peanuts and 188 products from sweet potatoes. He was born a slave, yet he succeeded beyond anyone’s dreams. He said, “I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.” He arose every morning at 4 am to pray in his favorite woods. He attributed all his success and ability to God.

Wernher von Braun (1912 – 1977): World’s most famous rocket scientist, mastermind of the Apollo moon rocket, 25 honorary doctorate degrees. Yet he wrote the California school board to get them to include the scientific evidences for creation in their high school science classes. He said, “… as I became exposed to the law and order of the universe, I was literally humbled by its unerring perfection. I became convinced that there must be a divine intent behind it all… My experiences with science led me to God. They challenge science to prove the existence of God. But must we really light a candle to see the sun?”   Even as early as 1945 at the end of WW2 when speaking of surrendering his rocket team to the Americans, he said, “We wanted to see the world spared another conflict such as Germany had just been through, and we felt that only by surrendering such a weapon to people who are guided by the Bible could such an assurance to the world be best secured.”

Since 1962-1963, nine unelected government officials (Supreme Court) have re-interpreted (lied about) the Constitution and forced the separation of these evidences from the classrooms. Results: our students' science grades have gotten worse ever since. We now rank at or near the bottom in Math and Science worldwide (in competition with "civilized" countries). We used to have the number one education system in the world, from the 1600s until the mid 1900s. Let us return to the great Biblical heritage that our country was founded upon.

Making up a story (evolution) to fit SELECTED facts is no more science than a Hollywood movie. Which is harder - changing your story (and therefore admitting you used to be wrong) or hiding the new facts that contradict your theory? Upward evolution has tried both of these.

There are many false religions in this world. Even true religion has been distorted by man (denominations - see the historical documentation and locations. Examples: Sun worship & Infant baptism have pagan roots.). Evolution is just one of many false religions. Evolution is more like a poor Hollywood story, than science. We need to look for a religious and scientific system that has evidence. Man has always distorted the truth. Remember, the Bible predicted 2000 years ago that man would deny creation and a world-wide flood (2 Pet 3:3-6).
